Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra born on 29 September 1547 and died on 22 April 1616 was a Spanish writer who is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the Spanish language and one of the world's pre-eminent novelists. 4. His novel Don Quixote has been translated into over 140 languages and dialects; it is, after the Bible, the most-translated book in the world. 5. Don Quixote, a classic of Western literature, is sometimes considered both the first modern novel and the best work of fiction ever written.Cervantes' influence on the Spanish language has been so great that the language is often called "the language of Cervantes". He has also been dubbed "The Prince of Wits". 6. Cervantes wrote that the first chapters were taken from "the archives of La Mancha", and the rest were translated from an Arabic text by the Moorish author Cide Hamete Benengeli. 7. The book is the most influential work of literature from the Spanish Golden Age and the entire Spanish literary canon. 8. Don Quixote is about a middle-aged gentleman from the region of La Mancha in central Spain. 9. Obsessed with the chivalrous ideals touted in books he has read, he decides to take up his lance and sword to defend the helpless and destroy the wicked. 10. The book has two parts. the first part describes that 50years old, not so rich, skinny, and bony, Alonso Quixano lives in the Spanish village of La Mancha with his nephew, Antonia, and his ruthless maid. Quixano is a pragmatic man in most of his works. 11. He is kind to his peers in the community, the village pastor and the class of servants. Quixano pays special tribute to the ruling class and regards them as superior to him. He has no desire for wealth or status. Poverty does not make him sad. 12. Quixano's most valuable asset is his books. Influenced by his books, he first becomes interested in the knights' rituals, adventures, and tales, and then gradually becomes enthralled with adventure knights which are pursuing an honorable and idealistic mission. 13. The second book also introduces a character named Samson Carrasco, a young man from the village of Dan Quixote who recently graduated from the University of Salamanca. Carasco plays the former role of priest and wants to save Dan Quixote and save his life from the dangers. 14.
